Belgian relation 2007-2008

Belgium

We travelled to Belgium on 18 April 2008. The journey was a little bit complicated due to the fact that the turbine of the airplane hit a bird during the take off, so we had to wait for another airplane. We were delayed about 2-3 hours. It wasn't a nice beginning but it came better.

On the first night I got to know my host family, we talked a lot about Budapest. I really liked my „host mother", I talked a lot with her.

The next day our hosts showed us Waregem, the beautiful big and park and the little shopping street.

On the first Sunday we visited Ooestende, a city next to the see. The guys of Belgium organised it by themselves. It was a good idea of them, we all liked it, and the see looked like the Mediterranean see, the beach was sandy.

On Monday we held the presentation that we made about our country. This day we met the Finnish group and they also held a presentation. We got to know the school, and after it we went to an adventure in Waregem to discover it better.

During this Belgian week we had to work on projects about different big questions of the 21st century. My group had to solve problems of polluting Gent. That's why we went to this city on Thursday. We travelled there by rail because the Belgian railway system is very modern, nice and the trains go frequently, however inside the city we used bikes. It was a little bit dangerous, because the wheel of the bike was very narrow and sometimes it went between the cobble stones (that covered the roads in the middle of Gent) and when a tram and a car came to next to me I was afraid but there was no problem about it. And it was also fun, I hadn't ridden a bike for years. The other groups weren't as lucky as us, because they stayed in Waregem. When we came back the school after the trip we had a volleyball tournament. We laughed a lot about how clumsy some people were, and we can also got in contact with the Finnish students.

Wednesday we went to Brussels. We took a trip first to the Atomium and then we separated into groups again, and the Belgians showed us to the famous places in Brussels. After this day we were very tired, and it was raining as well.

On Thursday every group introduced the presentations (they were about environmental polluting, recycling etc.)

On Friday we went to the cosy Brughe. It is an old historical city with lovely baroque streets. We loved it very much.

On Saturday I went to Antwerp with my host family, it's a big international city, „the city of Belgian fashion" they said. During the night we went to a local party, there was every kind of music and it was for our farewell, it was a good end to this hardworking week.

Sunday we said goodbye to the Belgians and we can just hope we can see each other again.
